James Crump has lived in Austin, TX, Boulder, CO, and currently resides on Canyon Lake in central Texas. He established many first ascents in Texas at Enchanted Rock and Hueco Tanks, and, in days past, was known to do “buildering” (aka climbing buidlings) at the University of Texas in Austin (including sending a 140-foot, 3 inch crack at the stadium.)
James has written articles for Rock and Ice Magazine, as well a guidebook for Hueco Tanks and two guidebooks for Enchanted Rock (Stranger than Friction and Dome Drivers Manual). The Dome Drivers Manual is an especially popular guidebook and is being re-released by the non-profit group Friends of Enchanted Rock (proceeds benefit the group).
