Hey there, I'm Tony. I started climbing in 2013 while I was in graduate school. During that time, I was so stressed about school that I had trouble "turning off." I'd work crazy hours just trying to finish that degree, and then lay awake all night worrying about the things I didn't get done.
An old friend invited me to join him for a weekend at the New River Gorge, and everything changed. Climbing was such a mental challenge (translation: it scared the crap out of me) that it offered me a true break from work. Living in Virginia, I traveled to the New 26 weekends that first year. Many of those trips involved waking up to snow on the tent and dodging icicles. Or rain. Or bugs. Or lightning. Oh, Wet Virginia...
In 2019, I made the move with my family to Las Vegas to be closer to climbing and to accept my dream job as an engineering professor (I list those in the opposite order when I'm talking to my boss). I managed to climb more days in the last 3 months than I did in the last 3 years!
I spend my spare time (off the rock) working on a project called The Intentional Academy. I use this space to teach folks about the ways that "living on purpose" has radically changed my approach to the way I spend my time, money, and career - giving me the freedom to live a life I love while doing meaningful work and building a prosperous future.
